Welcome to the Equity Evaluator Application

- Pilot Project -

This pilot project is a partnership between the Board, the Better Justice Lab of Access to Justice BC and the Centre for Digital Media.

  • Having a correct property assessment is important to you.
  • We will give you feedback based on the Board’s experience over many years.

We engaged students from the Centre for Digital Media to build this application. Meet the students.

We challenged them to use their creative skills to deliver important messages - but in an engaging way. They created a virtual hike through a forest in British Columbia where you will learn:

  • What is equity?
  • How do I get good evidence?

We will then give you feedback on your evidence:

  • Whether your assessment may be reduced and by how much;
  • Cautions where you might have trouble in your appeal;
  • An estimate of any property tax savings.

At the end of this journey, you can decide for yourself, “Should I continue with my appeal on the equity of my assessment”.

We want to hear from you to improve this pilot project:
  • Was this virtual experience a good way to learn about equity?
  • Did it help you decide how to proceed with your appeal?
  • What can we do to improve?

Important note to users:

This application is for residential homeowners who have appealed their property assessment to BC’s Property Assessment Appeal Board. Since it evaluates specific evidence, you must have an appeal number from the Board to use the application.

Please be aware:

This evaluation is not a decision of the Board. If agreement is not reached on your appeal, a Board member will make a decision based on evidence and arguments from you and BC Assessment. The decision may be different from this Application.
